Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission
Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission (WCPARC) has led the multi-agency effort to develop the Border to Border Trail (B2B Trail) since its inception in the late 1990s. The B2B Trail is one of WCPARC’s primary initiatives because of consistent support from Washtenaw County residents. Surveys dating back to the early 2000s have consistently rated trails in the top tier of the most desired recreation amenities in the county. Further, county residents have voted for and renewed millages to support WCPARC’s continued effort to develop and connect the B2B Trail throughout the County. WCPARC has been successful in augmenting local funding by securing state and federal grants and through partnership with the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative, which has provided significant donor contributions to accelerate construction of the B2B Trail.
The Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission provides access to more than 8,000 acres of parks, preserves, open spaces, trails, rivers and lakes, and diverse ecosystems. In addition to the B2B Trail, facilities include large urban and historical parks, nature preserves, small parks, a recreation center, a golf course, water and spray parks, a beach, and a dog park.
